For the and of the Year, and the New Year, I started the Bee-Keeper's Quilt also know as Hexi-Puffs.

Each of my Hexi-Puffs will be knitting my own hand spun yarn. After several test knits, the original pattern has 10 stitches cast-on. I knit 14 stitches for a sightly larger hexi.

For those that wonder, I use Magic-loop, two at a time with Judy's Magic Cast-On, KF&B, and a 3 Needle Bind-off.

It is Official!

I received a check yesterday from Skacel Collection, Inc.. I was one of several members of the Fall Men's Knitting Retreat who participated in Skacel's contest. We were each given on skein of yarn and asked to create an original design. We did not expect the final result, where everyone that participated could get their pattern published. These will be downloadable patterns. I will post a link if I can, once the patterns are released.

On the Loom

I practiced warp and weft patterns, using the pick-up stick. I stopped practicing when my shuttle was empty. I loaded up the shuttle, so I am ready for tonight's class.

Utah Continued...

Saw the performance of Winter's Tale. I am not sure if it is the seven years between performances, or a better understanding of the language, but I understood this production much more. It was interesting to see those on stage in clothes from the 20s and 30s, instead of the traditional Elizabethan Era. I know the ladies next to me were a little uncomfortable, but I think changing eras add a closer tie to the modern era.

Dial M For Murder was a fun and interesting production. I have not seen it on stage before, and I have not seen the Hitchcock version. I found out that Hitchcock based his on the original theater production, with only minor additions.

I can see why he did use the idea. It does appear to be the perfect murder. When it goes wrong, it still seems a perfect. But does someone actually get away with murder? You'll have to find out....

Fall Theater time

It is theater time again.

The 4th and Final show of the year is Five Guys Named Mo. Very interactive show. More interactive than I have seen with just about any other theater.

This weekend I am in Cedar City, Utah at the Utah Shakespeare Festival. There are three shows in the Fall season, but one of the plays, Noises Off ran in both Summer and Fall Season, so I'm only seeing two shows this time.

Dial M for Murder. I'm looking forward to this murder mystery. I have not seen this one on stage.

The Winter's Tale, by William Shakespeare. I have seen this one before in this same theater. I was a little confused the first time, so I hope to understand the play better this time.

This will be the last of the live theater this yea I believe. Of course I would like to see more. I am planning to go see Lord of the Rings, in Concert and the annual Trans-Siberian Orchestra

What is on my Needles

Panda Socks (Called Panda, because it is a blend of super wash merino, bamboo and Nylon).

Abstract Fiber Socks - might try Cat's new heel.

HizVest - I received this pattern at the Fall Men's Knitting Retreat and had to wait for my yarn to come in from Blue Moon Fiber. The 18 rows of 1x1 ribbing was slow. Just started my first pattern row.

What is on my wheel
Abstract fiber's Merino. I think it is pure merino. I loved all the colors in the fiber.

What's on my loom
I just had my third lesson on my new Ridged Heddle Loom. We started weaving this last class. We are doing a practice piece. I want to get through this worsted wool/acrylic blend and work on a thinner yarn.

Stitch Marker Exchange

Here are my Kool Aid Socks, so far.

Someone (No names mentioned) (Nancy) about a stitch marker exchange, and the different kinds of markers. I already owned a set of Polymer stitch markers, and already tried some basic markers. These are my first experiment with the clay. More soon.

OTN Update:

Kool Aid blank is near completeion.
Wild Foote is still being worked on at work, but nearing finish.
BMP Socks is on hold, just have not had time.
Working on a diagonal scarf. Almost done
New Sweater, just started Saturday. Still on the first row of the pattern, after the rib row. One pattern row is 5 complete rows, RS and WS. It is a open, buttoned sweater, but I am doing it in the round. More details soon.

Ornamant Exchange

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned a Ornament Exchange in Crafter's Haven? Well I can finally post pictures of the ornaments I knitted.

These are different sizes of holiday bells. The small blue on on the left is regular sock yarn, on a US #3/ The rest are different kinds of yarn, on needles from US #4 to I think #8. Each one was blocked and put onto a bottle to stretch to form. Yes it is mostly wool, so it will stretch.

... and now for exchange I received:

More sock yarn, and I do love the color. The dish cloths are the DW cloth, and an illusional design. (the camera angle brought out the illusion a lot better), and a Christmas stocking.

After reviewing my blog, I realized I did not post pictures of finished socks.

These are my first sock blanks.

Here are my Coriolis Socks. It is not easy to see, but the coriolis. There is a line on each foot that starts near the top, goes through the heal, and wraps around the leg.

What does this mean? It is sock blank time again. The colors are Grape, Cherry, Black Cherry, Orange and Lemon Lime. No blue, because I could not find any blue colors. Did not use yellow or pink, or the other reds. Why are there so many reds? Cherry, Black Cherry, Strawberry, Fruit Punch and Tropical Punch.

Wet Blank

Dry blank. There are thinner stripes at the bottom, wider in the middle and vertical at top. The blank is in the bathroom drying. I will probably cast-on over the weekend.

Great production. Michael V. isthe only actor who can upstage a dog. The Dog upstaged everyone else.

Taming of the Shrew (Always Funny)

Interesting version. Staged in 1946-7 in Italy. Not sure which was the shrew, and who was tamed.

Cyrano De Bergerac (Hear this is the hit of the season)

Great work. I heard about a Broadway version, and you saw the actor who played Cyrano. Here, you saw an actor who was Cyrano. Needed a few tissue for the ending.

Fiddler on the Roof

Great production with a lot of energy. Helped me understand the Jewish culture. More tissue.

Othello

Very believable Iago. You so wanted to like him, but you had to hate him. So happy that actor returned. He was cast perfectly.

The School for Wives

This was my least favorite of the group. Was just too predictable.

I'm already look at my Calendar for the Fall Season. This year's production includes:

Julius Caesar (Hear it will be another modernized production. Top of my list to see)

(In this hilarious farce, movie mogul David O. Selznick has hired writer Ben Hecht and director Victor Fleming to write the script for Gone with the Wind. Nature Sit

Monday and Tuesday were the first two days back to school. I have been helping out two of the Kindergarten classrooms, so I have been coming home tired. We had a storm front come through, so these two days it was actually below 100 outside. I decided to sit outside and listen to pod-casts and audio books while I sit and knit on the patio. Tuesday I filled the bird feeder and took my camera with me.

Dish Cloth

Here are a couple of pictures of a Dish Cloth I gave as a Gift to my State Contact at the Assembly I went to in DC. This is an original design. I started with using the Multi-color only (Too much color). I tried to use the Mulit-Color in the stitch definition (Too complicated). I finally took it to DC, and knit the Border, then went to inside and outside of the mulit-colored yarn, and knit the inner color. Blocking in warn water really helped the project. The yarn is Berroco Comfort DK.

Sock Blank #2

While the ladies in dishcloth_haven were chatting about food, I came home and cooked up some fiber dye. My first blank does not have a color name. The second blank does.

Country Fall

The colors are Red (The same as from Blank #1), Golden Brown and Dark Brown. These are colors I think about during the fall. Here at home, we usually get yellows and dried out brown. I do see myself as a Fall/Winter color person.

Thank you to Susan for helping me with the color ideas. She also suggested not creating a standard pattern. I changed color randomly, and the bands are not the same size.

Here are pictures of my newest vest. Yes it was time consuming with 5 colors at the same time, but it was worth it at the end. I was able to wear the vest one whole day. It is now too hot for vests.

Last night I learned how to use a Drop Spindle. I will post pictures soon.

I received a homework assignment. I have a small bag of raw wool. When I say raw, it is shaved from the sheep, grass, straw and all. It have to be cleaned and washed before it gets to be prepped.

The CB sweater had problems. The sleeves were not turning out right. One was wider than the other, and they were both too wide. So they sleeves were frogged. Instead of picking up 126 stitches, I and only picking up 100. My Spinning teacher is a experienced knitter, and gave me a couple of suggestions. I get the best pictures outside, and it is dark out,

I visited my other LYS, Wooly Wonders. I now own a drop spindle and a bag of roving. What are these? These are the tools used by hand Spinners. Yes, I'm going to learn how to Spin too. I'm taking a private lesson later this month on hand Spinning. I'm looking forward to it.

Been a busy summer and I keep forgetting to post.

Yes it has been another Hot summer and I have not been knitting as much.

Knitting Masters. The 16th final sample is done, and the hat is now done. I still have to tuck tails and block. I plan to re-photograph all the samples, and the hat, using the original posts.

CB. It got frogged, and restarted, with more frogging. I'm thinking it is going to be tight, but maybe blocking will help. I'm almost to the arm holes, so it will go faster.

Started a small dragon for the release of Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows. Lost a weekend while trying to read the book. Dragon did not turn out quite as expected, so he took a break.

Finally got to meet the East Side Knitters that are unable to make it to the West Side. Who? The Las Vegas Knitters. http://lasvegasknitters.blogspot.com/ We meet on each side of town once a week.

Each item in the list with (Practice) has been knitted for practice. 5 and 6 are not OTN (On the Needle) yet. I want to understand the increases better before trying to knit.

CB has the pattern finished. Just knitting to the sleeves next.

Lots of progress on the CB vest.

Got the 3rd swatch done, then went back and checked my directions. Garter? Garter? !? I thought it said use stockinette stitch. Ripped back to the rib, and started knitting again.

Okay.... things to do with cat hair?

I'm in Reno this weekend for a Conference and the Nevada State Education Association, Annual Delegate Assembly. Lots of sitting and listening time, so lots of Knitting Time!

I am already on my third Master Practice Swatch. I'm knitting my practice on Patton Acrylic. I skipped lunch today and went yarn shopping. My final swatches will be on Summer Sky Cascade 220. No camera this weekend, but I should get shots next week. Why a practice and a final? I did not have the right kind of wool that would be best for light color, and wool blocks better than acrylic. Besides, practice does make perfect.

If your ever in Reno, near the Peppermill Hotel, just 3 blocks or so North, in the NE corner, there is a CVS, just to the left is a mall with a Ben Franklin. This Ben Franklin is worth visiting. I'm guessing 8 to 10 aisles of yarn. Great selection of yarns from companies that usually deal with the knit shops only (Noro, Cascade, Berroco, and others) along with the standard Red Heart. I did see colors from Lion Heart, I have not seen in shopping in Michael's/Joann's/Walmart.

The baby hats are for a friend, whose daughter is having twins. Grandma promises pictures after the babies are born.

What is a CB Vest? Same vest, but I am using two colors. If your not sure who CB is, just wait.

After a discussion in Knitting Novices on Yahoo Groups, we started talking about the Master Knitting program. After talking about it, I looked into it.

I am now a member of The Knitting Guild Association.

I am also one of the newest participants of the Master Hand Knitting, Level 1 course. This is not a course in teaching me how to knit, but to test my skills and knowledge. From my Instructions (Copyright tkga, 04/07)
This level of the Master Hand Knitting Program tests your abilities to:

Research different techniques
Accurately follow directions and patterns
Knit garter, rib, stockinette, seed, and reverse stockinette stitch patterns with even tension
Space increases evenly
Mirror increases
Mirror decreases
Make yarnovers
Knit simple cables
Change colors
Weave in yarn tails properly
Write simple patterns
Knit a simple hat in the round
Properly block swatches
Discuss blocking techniques and care of knitted items

... and this is just Level 1 of 3. I have had a few requests to post my progress, I will be including pictures of my progress.

Currently, while doing other things as well, starting to practice swatch #1.

If the program interests you, a couple things I have learned:

Read the "On Your Way to the Masters, Article Archive". There are great articles to help understand the program and techniques.
Use the TKGA Message board. There are useful conversations there.

Felted Squirrel

I love sitting and watch the squirrels raiding the bird feeder. Living in the city, we do not have any squirrels. After seeing Fiber Trends pattern I tried it.

Here are Pictures my second try. He is still waiting to visit the washing Machine. Yes, he is a felting project.

Okay. My first one has already been though the wash, stuffed and had the final additions.

The Yarn is cascade 220, and the tail includes a random Eyelash.

Sorry All for the lack of posts. It was a busy summer, and then the school year started. In November my Mom passed away unexpectingly. I have a couple projects to post, and should get more posted soon.

Here is my first vest. The pattern is Peter Easy by Berroco. There are some design problems with the pattern, so it is wider than it should be.

This is the same pattern, different color and I reduced the starting number of stitches I cast on.

No, I am not using Berroco yarn.

I also modified the pattern in the ribbing for the neck and shoulders. Instead of the standard K2P2 all rows,

1 - K2P2
2- K2B, P2 (Knit in the back loop)

Remember when you were told to not twist your stitches?

Two socks at the same time on Circulars

This post is for those that have wondered about knitting two socks at the same time. This will work doing two sleeves at the same time as well.

There are two balls of yarn. You can use both ends, but I just found it easier to use two seperate balls. Yes they do get tangled. The most dificult so far is casting on, and then moving the yarn so they follow the same direction. My ribbing is K2P1.

When you look closer, one of the two circulars has an orange color. I used a Sharpie to color one of the two so that I can tell them apart. This helps to tell the two needles apart, and easier to know which side you are knitting.

Scarf #2

I finished my green scarf, and decided I wanted to try more than one color. This is the same pattern, using red for the scarf. and grey for the cables. Yes there are two balls of grey. I was told it would be easier to use two, so I don't carry the yarn as far.

Scarf

Sill had a couple of the Alpaca left, so I decided to do a scarf. I started a cable stitch in a sweater, but took a break from that project. I chose the scarf to practice doing a cable stitch. This is my first work with Wooden Circulars. They are ok, but I still like my Turbos.

Here are my first "Pair" of socks. They are knitted with Baby Alpaca with a twist. They were knitted in the round with two #2 circulars. For those that wonder, yes they are warm to wear.
